It's not often we find ourselves on site in time for the groundbreaking ceremony but that's what happened on site at Salter Street, London for our colleagues Martello Piling Ltd.
Two of our Delmag RH34 drilling rigs were required to undertake ground preparation works before installing foundation piles on the site located between the West India Dock Road and the Westferry DLR station. Located in the East End of London, the job site has had numerous incarnations from cramped Victorian housing, office and light industrial use to most recently a two storey printworks. Naturally, each use has left its mark on the site with multiple subsoil foundations.
Rather than excavate the site to remove the underground obstructions two Delmag RH34s were used to core through the obstructions and remove the existing concrete piles along the line of the new foundations. Once the foundation path had been effectively cleared Martello would go on to install 188No. secant wall piles (Ø900mm) and 115No. bearing piles (Ø750mm) as foundations for the new construction
